League One Round-up

Promoted Bury have signed former Chelsea youth player Jacob Mellis on a single year deal. Mellis made just one substitute appearance for the West London club, after a court case involving his girlfriend he was subsequently released from the Blues academy and moved on to Barnsley. This off-field controversy has overshadowed the clear talent that he has. He has the technical ability to turn a match on its head but failed to do so during his time at Bloomfield Road.

Former Luton Town marksman Mark Cullen and joined relegated Blackpool for a £180,000. The ex Hull City youngster netted 14 times last campaign and is the sixth player to join ‘The Tangerines’ this summer. He joins on a two-year-deal with an option of a third.

Departing Bloomfield Road is former frontman Steven Davies. Davies has agreed to join Bradford City after two unsuccessful season’s in Lancashire. Despite playing the majority of his career at Championship level with the likes of Derby County, Bristol City and Blackpool, Davies thought he needed a new challenge and with Bradford being the massive club that they are, it was certainly a wise move for the Liverpudlian.

Former Blackpool Loanee Donervon Daniels had joined fellow relegated side Wigan Athletic on a three-year-contract. The 21-year-old arrives from West Bromwich Albion where his contract expired last month. He will add physicality to a defence that often looked frail last year. Daniels in the promotion candidates 4th signing of the summer joining fellow centre-back Craig Morgan in the defensive department.

The final player to depart relegation favourites Blackpool is Scottish defender Gary MacKenzie. He joins mid-table Doncaster Rovers on a two-year-deal and will home to return to the second tier with the club. He played Championship football with Blackpool for two season’s after a successful loan stint with the club the previous season.
