Northampton Town have signed Port Vale defender Adam Yates on an initial one month loan deal from Vale Park. The right-back, 32, had a recent dispute with manager Rob Page over the shirt and spot which he has made his own in recent years after loosing it in the opening weeks to new arrival Ben Purkiss.
Yates began his career with local club Crewe Alexandra but after failing to break into the first team picture opted to take the plunge into non-league. Following three years in the depths with the likes of Leek Town and Halifax, he was scooped up by Conference side Morecambe. In his inaugural season with the Lancashire club Yates achieved promotion to the Football League and a long awaited return to regular forth tier action.
Yates is now Vale’s longest serving player with 234 appearances but his place came under threat from free transfer Ben Purkiss who arrived from Walsall in the summer. Only time will tell whether the versatile defender can reclaim his spot, or whether a permanent deal is on the cards when the window reopens in January.
