League Two round up matchday 6

Leyton Orient lost their 100% record in shocking fashion as they were thrashed 4-0 by a rampant Exeter City. Tom Nichols grabbed two from the spot, and his name sake Alex was also in on the act before half time to reside Orient to their first league defeat.

Portsmouth and Plymouth failed to capitalize on the O’s slip up with Pompey settling for a dire 0-0 draw with Accrington. Argyle faired even worse and Teddy Sherringham Stevenage made it 3 unbeaten.

Newport County are now 2 point adrift at the foot of the table after conceding 3 goals in a lacklustre display against York city. The dismissal of Danny Holmes did not help proceedings although the damage had already been dealt. Their nearest rivals Yeovil were also foiled by the dismissal of a player. Shaun Jeffers saw red just as the Glovers had taken the lead, and to many supporters surprise they doubled the lead not long later. Eventual they overcame to the numerical advantage as Morecambe crashed in 4 goals to send their supporter’s home delighted.

Brunton Park is the place to be if you’re looking for goals this season, in just 3 games in Cumbria, it has produced 15 goals. 5 of which were scored yesterday in Carlisle’s 3-2 triumph over Barnet.

league two totw md6The controversial sending off of Harrison Dunk turned the game on it’s head as Luton bounced back to secure a 3-1 victory. An alleged handball from the Cambridge midfielder is the incident in question and I can certainly sympathise with the U’s supporters.

Matt McClure’s brace gave Dagenham and Redbridge their first league win as they came from behind to beat Northampton Town at Sixfield’s. The goal of the day came as the One Call in Mansfield as the Stags fought hard for a well earned draw with Wimbledon. Chris Clements struck an unstoppable free kick past James Shea to leave them a point outside the play-offs.

Controversy rained in the final game of the day as full back Michael Harriman found himself on the score sheet, twice in one game. The full doubled his career tally yesterday but he was not the only impressive performer on show. Carl Magney surged into the area to claim his first Pools goal but was later sent off leaving Harriman to clean up the mess.
