Caven comprehensive in convincing victory

It was an encouraging World Championship debut for Joe Murnan as Andy Hamilton’s 100% first round record was thrown firmly out of the window. ‘The Hammer wasted two darts at double in the third set to progress as Bolton boy Murnan began his fight-back. In what was quite frankly a boring match ridden with missed doubles and poor scoring Murnan was able to take Hamilton to a final set.

Once World Number 5, Hamilton has been on a downward spiral for some years, crashing out in the first round of the Worlds only increases his chances of dropping out of the top 32.

Mensur Suljovic was left jumping for joy following a convincing win over Dutch qualifier Jermaine Wattimena. The exuberant Austrian hit a table topping 99 average, joining Phil Taylor amongst the first rounds top scorers. It wasn’t all plain sailing for the World number 21, he had lost the first set before steam-rolling the Dutch debutant, and romping to a 3-1 win.jamie caven

You can’t go wrong with three maximums and some extremely efficient finishing. Now 39, Caven is yet to make an appearance past the last 32 stage, throwing darts as he did this afternoon, is could just be Jabba’s year
