Norwich’s relegation was confirmed two weeks ago, the yoyo club returning to the Championship for the second time in five years after unsuccessful campaigns in the Premier League.
Relegation through the trap door of the money making super power that is England’s top flight, ultimately means many big names and promising talents will leave. England under-21 star Nathan Redmond Is the latest to be linked with a move away from Carrow Road.
Established Premier League Outfit Stoke City look to be in poll position to capture the 22-year-old’s signature. A former Birmingham City youth product, Redmond may be keen to return to the West Midlands area that he has been familiar with throughout the majority of his career. The only stumbling block may be the competition he would have to face should he complete the move to the Britannia. Marko Arnautovic, Xherdan Shaqiri, amongst others will be looking to kick on after impressing in the 2015/16 season. Leaving Redmond with little but a place on the bench, but footballers enjoy fighting for their places right?
Also in contention to capture the technically gifted winger are Europa League qualifiers West Ham United and Southampton. The latter closed out an impressive season under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman with a 6th placed finish. St Mary’s has boasted some extremely talented wingers in its time, but with Sadio Mane attracting interest from suitors such as Liverpool it could be the end of the road for the Mali international at the Hampshire club. This would free up the space for a young and hungry talent such as Redmond to make an impact, he will surely be a target for Koeman should Mane head through the exit door.
The Hammers are the final club said to be sniffing around Redmond’s services. There is no doubt it was a magnificent year for the Irons, and the move to the Olympic Stadium will only increase the feel good factor. But on the field there is a slight lack in the wide midfield positions. Michail Antonio has produced arguably his best football from right-back, while Dimirti Payet and Manuel Lanzini operate more effectively in central areas. The introduction of Redmond would certainly not go a miss for Slavan Bilic, who will be preparing his side for a new era.
So there you have it, the race is truly on the capture the signature of potential one of the hottest English wingers to grace the Premier League. It is certain to me that Redmond has a magnitude of unfulfilled potential, which could come to the brim if he makes the leap to one of these three ever improving top flight sides.
