After an impressive breakthrough campaign, big things were expected of Jack Grealish. The 20-year-old had previously enjoyed a loan spell in the third tier with Notts County, before making the huge step up to top flight football. After a disastrous season at Villa Park the flying winger may be looking to transfer straight back amongst the big boys, with Everton and Stoke City among the teams interested in his services.
Back in August it looked although Grealish could be the next big thing in the West Midlands. Even force his way into the international fray. Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy have pushed their way in from the bottom, and despite the former being dropped two days ago, Grealish could’ve been in with a shout of being on the Plane to France, had his league form been up to scratch.
Grealish was accused of behaving in an unprofessional manor by former boss Remi Garde, and was therefore relegated to the under 21 squad for the remainder of the season. This was the final straw under the Frenchman, and the last we would see of him for the season.
Earlier in the week Grealish was part of Gareth Southgate’s England under 21 side that won the three lions their first tournament since 1982. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker were scorers that carried England to the trophy, but Grealish was an integral cog of the team that beat France in the Toulon tournament final.
Stoke City lead the charge for Grealish’s signature, although the Potters already boast an array of attacking talent, plus are first in line to sign Norwich wide-man Nathan Redmond. Grealish will be looking to nail down a first team spot in Mark Hughes’ side after playing just 16 games for Villa last term. Tottenham and Everton are also said to be in the running to capitalize of Villa’s relegation.
